Academic Excellence in Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs at Chulalongkorn University, a breeding ground for future research and academic excellence, provide an interdisciplinary learning and research environment for collaboration between life science researchers and computational scientists. The curriculum was well-designed to address different backgrounds of candidates in life science and in computer science. Our courses and research are taught and supervised by outstanding faculty members who are at the forefront of research in the fields. In addition, our Omics Science and Bioinformatics Center can provide excellent facilities for students to gain advanced knowledge and skills in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs focus on preparing quality researchers and experts in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. Graduates of the programs will be able to analyze, discuss and synthesize the knowledge in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology, which is essential for the current biology research that can help lay the foundation for country development of the new era.

Importance of the Program

Research in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is essential for research in medicine, agriculture, and industry, which ultimately contribute to our country's economic growth. For sustainable research-based development, Thailand must prepare for the rapid advancement in this field. Beside, Thailand had diverse biological resources. Therefore, databases of biological resources should be developed as sources of knowledge and biological data that can be used to improve our health and lives.

At present, Thailand lacks experts who have high-level knowledge and skills in science and technology related to Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Therefore, with the potentiality of Chulalongkorn University, an institute of academic excellence with expertise in various fields, the Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology should be offered as an interdisciplinary program under the responsibility of the Graduate School with a cooperative management of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science in teaching and managing the program.
